But there are dark undercurrents, and something isn't quite right. Someone has seen the future. And they don't want it to happen...
This is by Steve Lyons who is a strong and reliable writer of this kind of thing, and he rarely disappoints. The first episode is slightly overlong, but set things up well. The cliffhanger is obvious but intriguing.
As things go on in the next three parts, characters who had seemed slightly flat in part one all come to life, and the writing and the performances make them very believable individuals with very human frailities.
The end of episodes two and three are superb cliffhangers that will leave you gasping, as they turn the story around drastically on both occasions.
Acting wise though the story is stolen by mark gatiss as gold, whose acting and vocal mannerisms create a wonderfully alien character, who is intrigued with the human condition.
The story also deals with a few interesting themes, and they're very well handled. To go into further detail would spoil it.
